NFL Division Winner Predictions: The Lions Are Set To Roar Again
Kody Malstrom goes through all eight divisions and predicts the winner for the 2026 season and where you can find the best betting odds.
With optimism at an all-time high, nearly every fanbase (sorry, Arizona, Cleveland and Miami fans) has its sights set on a division title, telling themselves this year is the year. Below is a breakdown of a best bet for each division, including potential teams to monitor for mid-season wagers.
2026 NFL Division Winner Predictions
NFC North - Detroit Lions
After missing out on the playoffs last year, the Detroit Lions now get the benefit of weaving through a favorable schedule this season. Their re-tooled offensive line will also help ward off pressure, reducing the amount of Havoc Jared Goff has to deal with while going through his progressions.
With negative regression looming large over the Chicago Bears, while the Green Bay Packers have glaring holes across their offensive line and key spots on defense, the Lions are in the best position to run away with the division title. Should Kyler Murray inject some life into Minnesota’s offense, then be prepared to place a small wager on the Vikings to win the title as well.
- Best Bet: Detroit Lions (+180, DraftKings)
NFC East - Philadelphia Eagles
Post-A.J. Brown, the Philadelphia Eagles are still loaded on offense, bringing with them one of the best offensive lines in the sport as well. Despite what social media tells you, Jalen Hurts is a dynamic QB who is more than capable of leading them down the field at a consistent rate, ranking in the top-10 in CPOE and in air yards per reception.
Even with Jayden Daniels back at full health and John Harbaugh taking the reins as the head coach of the New York Giants, there are far too many glaring red flags for either team to compete, making them a pass at their current odds. Bet the Eagles now with zero intentions of hedging for the foreseeable future.
- Best Bet: Philadelphia Eagles (+140, Caesars)
NFC South - New Orleans Saints
Our first discrepancy with the market, the New Orleans Saints possess the highest projected win total, making them a clear best bet to win the NFC South. Tyler Shough showed promise in his 2025 campaign, now getting the benefit of utilizing more tools at his disposal after the Saints drafted Jordyn Tyson and signed Travis Etienne.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, is dealing with uncertainty at its skill positions, losing Mike Evans to the San Francisco 49ers while Bucky Irving is dealing with injuries. The Buccaneers' offensive line is also middling at best, forcing Baker Mayfield to continue to make magic at an unsustainable rate.
- Best Bet: New Orleans Saints (+280, BetMGM)
NFC West - Seattle Seahawks
With the San Francisco 49ers dealing with a massive overhaul, it looks like it will be a two-horse race for the NFC West division title. The Rams were aggressive this offseason, acquiring Myles Garrett and a slew of cornerbacks to help bolster their defense.
Still, with the Seattle Seahawks projected to match their win total while listed at a far more favorable price, I will back the reigning Super Bowl champions with intentions of buying the Rams later. The Seahawks field one of the most complete rosters on both sides of the ball, a unit that is more than capable of taking the Rams the distance when they meet up.
- Best Bet: Seattle Seahawks (+210, Caesars)
AFC North - Baltimore Ravens
Even with health back on their side, the Cincinnati Bengals are still a pass until their defense can prove they can play at a competitive level. The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, need to address their offense, lacking the explosiveness that is needed to match their opponents' output.
Barring another injury-riddled season, the Baltimore Ravens should face minimal resistance in their efforts to win the AFC North, fielding a group that is head and shoulders more talented than their division rivals. Place a wager on the Ravens to win the division at their current odds with intentions of adding more should they get off to a slow start while integrating a new system.
- Best Bet: Baltimore Ravens (-110, FanDuel)
AFC East - Buffalo Bills
While the New England Patriots schedule is far more daunting than last season’s, they still have a favorable path to 10+ wins, putting them firmly in contention for the AFC East division title. Drake Maye took massive strides with his development last year, nearly winning the MVP award while leading the league in CPOE and in EPA per play.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, their offensive line will be a massive thorn in their side, fielding an underwhelming group that may apply serious pressure to Maye in the backfield. Back the Buffalo Bills to win the division now, while patiently waiting to add the Patriots should their o-line prove they can give Maye the protection he needs to sustain his high level of play.
- Best Bet: Buffalo Bills (-125, bet365)
AFC South - Jacksonville Jaguars
Speaking of poor offensive lines, the Houston Texans are expected to start one of the worst groups of five in the trenches this year, bringing in a high amount of Havoc into their contests. When forced to make quick throws while under relentless pressure, C.J. Stroud was unable to keep it clean, finishing near the bottom of the board in bad throw percentage.
With negative regression looming large over the Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be able to keep pace with them, fielding a more well-rounded roster to help reduce the amount of variance in their contest, especially if Brian Thomas can round back into form, giving their offense more firepower to help compete when their quality of opponent ramps up.
- Best Bet: Jacksonville Jaguars (+245, DraftKings)
AFC West - Los Angeles Chargers
It’s not exactly settling on the stomach to fade Patrick Mahomes, yet it’s hard to ignore the devastating injury and loss of production on defense throughout the offseason, making them a pass at their current odds. The Denver Broncos Bo Nix is also middling at best, ranking 33rd in air yards per reception and 28th in CPOE.
That turns my attention towards the Los Angeles Chargers, a contender who is expected to take a step forward on offense after hiring Mike McDaniel as their OC. Should their defense stay healthy, then the Chargers' high level of play on both sides of the ball will help them win at a high rate, potentially contending for the number one seed in the AFC in the process.
- Best Bet: Los Angeles Chargers (+190, DraftKings)
